After this course, you will be able to
- Receive critical feedback calmly, ask for specifics, and decide later what to act on.
- Give feedback, praise or criticism, using Situation, Behaviour, Impact, Next.
- Prepare for, open and steer a difficult conversation to an agreed next step.
- Know when a problem should go to a manager or HR instead of being handled alone.
What good looks like at work
| You… | Instead of… |
|---|---|
| Ask a question when you get feedback | Explaining why the other person is wrong |
| Describe the behaviour and its effect | Commenting on someone's attitude or personality |
| Raise a problem early, in private, while it is small | Waiting until it boils over, or complaining to others |
| Go into a hard conversation knowing what you want | Hoping it goes well, or avoiding it |
| End with an agreed next step | Leaving with both people feeling unheard |
People who can do the left-hand column are trusted with more responsibility. Others know that problems around them get said out loud and sorted out.
Your learning path
Take the lessons in order. Each one builds on the last and takes 10 to 20 minutes. Your answers stay on the page while it is open. If you reload, the lesson starts again, so finish a lesson in one sitting. The people in the stories are fictional.
How to get the most from this course
- Rate yourself honestly at the start and end of every lesson. The change is the point.
- Try every exercise. Do not just scroll. The practice is where it sticks.
- Read or listen to the Deep Dive in each lesson. That is where the real-life detail lives.
- Pick one "this week, try this" action and do it before Friday.
- Finish with the capstone, one week on a team, and see what rank you earn.
If you manage people: each lesson ends with a short note for managers. The weekly actions make good material for one-to-ones.
